Greece Enters EU's Crypto Regulatory Framework with Four New Providers
Greece has made its first entries into the European Union's crypto regulatory register under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. Four Greek providers, BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, Capital Wallet Greece, and Piraeus Bank, appeared on the European Securities and Markets Authority's (ESMA) MiCA register updated Thursday.
These additions bring the total number of unique providers to 359. The distinction of becoming Greece's first MiCA-authorized provider could have gone to Binance, but the exchange withdrew its application in June before a formal decision was made by the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC).
The Wall Street Journal reported that European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde had intervened to block Binance's Greek MiCA application. However, the HCMC has denied these claims, stating that no official communication with ECB officials on this matter occurred.
