Greece Enters EU's MiCA Register with Four Crypto Providers
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has added four Greek crypto providers to its MiCA register, marking Greece's first appearance on the EU-wide list. BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, Capital Wallet Greece, and Piraeus Bank are now included in the register, which has reached 359 unique providers.
The split oversight model in Greece is highlighted by this development, as the Hellenic Capital Market Commission oversees BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, and Capital Wallet Greece, while the Bank of Greece supervises Piraeus Bank. This arrangement reflects Greece's implementation of MiCA, which allows member states to assign more than one competent authority.
The addition comes after Binance withdrew its Greek MiCA application on June 24, citing unresolved questions around its approval. The Hellenic Capital Market Commission has denied any European Central Bank (ECB) intervention or communication from government officials regarding the application.
