Greece Lists First Crypto Providers under EU MiCA Framework
Greece has become the latest EU member state to list crypto-asset service providers under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, welcoming its first four entrants to the register. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) updated its MiCA register on Thursday, adding BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, Capital Wallet Greece, and Piraeus Bank as the country's first crypto-asset service providers.
The additions bring the total number of unique providers on the MiCA register to 359. The move marks a significant step in Greece's rollout of MiCA supervision and highlights how regulatory responsibilities can be split across different Greek institutions.
ESMA's documentation notes that member states may designate more than one competent authority and divide responsibilities accordingly, which is consistent with Greece's approach. In this case, HCMC is the competent authority for three providers (BCash, Xenios Blockchain Group, and Capital Wallet Greece), while the Bank of Greece oversees Piraeus Bank.
