Grok Surges Past 60% of AI Agent Trading on Coinbase
A recent week on Coinbase saw a notable dominance of Elon Musk's AI agent, Grok, in trading volume. According to exchange data, Grok accounted for nearly 60% of AI agent trading volume during the period from September 14 to September 21, while OpenAI's ChatGPT lagged behind with 1.54%. This significant lead was noted by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, who referred to Grok as the 'leading client for agentic traders' on the exchange.
The breakdown of notional trading volume on Coinbase for Agents by the AI client behind each order showed Grok leading with 59.54%, followed by custom command-line setups at 21.73% and Anthropic's Claude at 13.37%. Perplexity held a 3.48% share.
The Coinbase for Agents rollout, launched on June 11, allows AI assistants to trade crypto spot and derivatives from a user's account. In September, the exchange added U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds to the platform.
