GSR Expands Regulated Footprint in Cayman Islands
GSR, a leading provider of market making services and institutional-grade OTC trading, has expanded its regulated footprint in the Cayman Islands. The firm announced the registration of two entities under the Securities Investment Business Act (SIBA), which will enable GSR to provide trading, liquidity, and execution services across traditional and onchain financial markets.
The registrations of GSR Markets Cayman Limited and GSR Capital (Cayman) Limited with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) build on GSR's growing presence in the Cayman Islands. The firm has been operating at the forefront of crypto markets for over a decade, providing liquidity, risk management, and market structure to institutional counterparties.
GSR CEO Xin Song noted that tokenized securities could become one of the largest trading opportunities in the industry, with total annualized volumes potentially reaching between $20 trillion and $50 trillion within three years. The firm views tokenized securities as another core market and is building the infrastructure and regulatory capabilities to participate as these markets develop.
GSR's expansion into global securities markets reflects the increasing convergence of traditional and onchain financial markets. As more financial assets move onto blockchain infrastructure, issuers and investors may seek access to liquidity across both traditional venues and crypto-native platforms.
