Japanese game developer Gumi has launched a new crypto asset fund in partnership with SBI Financial Services. The fund, operated by SBI Crypto Fund, aims to bridge Japan's corporate sector and the crypto market while building an operational track record ahead of a possible future lifting of Japan's ban on crypto exchange-traded funds.

The 3 billion yen ($18.3 million) fund will primarily invest in Bitcoin and major altcoins using staking, portfolio rebalancing, and hedging strategies. This move builds on Gumi's expanding crypto business, which includes managing its own crypto holdings centered on XRP, portfolio management services through Hinode Technologies, and crypto investment funds.

Gumi's latest annual report shows that crypto has become a significant part of its balance sheet, with the company holding 14.13 billion yen in crypto assets as of April 30, 2026, nearly doubling from 7.58 billion yen a year earlier.
