Hacked X Account Used to Scam Robinhood Users Out of $1.2-$1.3 Million
Roman Hood's CEO Vlad Tenev fell victim to a hack on July 23, 2026, when unknown attackers gained access to his X account. The hackers took advantage of this opportunity to promote the VLAD meme coin, claiming it was 'the official mascot of the Robinhood Chain network.'
The post was designed to deceive users into believing that VLAD would be added to the Robinhood app, and it successfully drew over 175,000 views in just 20 minutes before being deleted.
In reality, the VLAD token was created just 46 minutes prior to the hack on the Pons platform of Robinhood Chain. According to blockchain analysts, the hackers made approximately $1.2-$1.3 million from the scam, using a mechanism that allowed them to collect trading fees without touching locked liquidity.
RH confirmed the breach and stated they were working with X to restore access to Tenev's account.
