Hamas Warns Donors Against Binance for Crypto Transfers
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, has instructed its donors to avoid using Binance for crypto transfers. A letter dated February 10, 2025, was submitted to a U.S. court file opened by the FBI and revealed on September 16, 2026, by the DoJ.
The document recommends using Bybit, OKX, Kast, or RedotPay instead of Binance, and provides a workaround method for avoiding detection. This guidance was given despite the fact that Binance claims its anti-money laundering controls are effective in detecting illicit activity.
Crypto analysts note that stablecoins like USDT offer a stable value, reduced transaction fees, and global liquidity, making them a favorite among both legitimate actors and sanctioned groups for money laundering purposes. The U.S. Treasury estimates crypto flows linked to Hamas at $165 million before October 2023, with wallets linked to the group receiving about $41 million in crypto between 2020 and 2023.
