Hana Bank Sets Blockchain Precedent with $100M Digital Bond
South Korea's Hana Bank has made history by issuing a $100 million digital bond using Euroclear's blockchain-based platform. The five-year bond was processed on a distributed ledger network, which reportedly shortened the issuance, registration, and settlement process from three to five business days to just one day.
The bond also connects to Euroclear's existing global settlement network, allowing investors to trade it through their existing accounts and trading systems. This integration aims to make the digital bond more accessible and liquid in the market.
This move marks a significant step towards the adoption of blockchain technology in the financial sector, particularly in South Korea. The use of distributed ledger networks has the potential to increase efficiency and reduce costs in securities issuance and settlement.
