Hana Card Teams with Tether on Stablecoin Business
Hana Card, a South Korean credit card company, has partnered with Tether, the issuer of the largest stablecoin USDT, to explore ways to connect global stablecoins with financial services in the country.
The agreement marks the latest move by Hana Financial Group to expand its partnerships with global digital asset companies as it seeks to establish a comprehensive ecosystem covering different stages of the digital asset value chain.
Hana Card has been actively engaging in the digital assets market, having signed a strategic partnership agreement with Circle, the issuer of USDC, in December last year. The company also collaborated with Crypto.com on a stablecoin payment promotion that offered cashback to foreign visitors using the service to make purchases at participating merchants in South Korea.
Hana Financial Group aims to build a broader digital asset value chain encompassing issuance, custody, payments, remittances, and tokenized securities. The group has been expanding its digital asset infrastructure beyond payments and is working on overseas remittance services based on GIWA Chain, a blockchain developed by Dunamu.
