Hargreaves Lansdown Brings Crypto ETNs to UK Investors
Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK's largest retail investment platform, has started offering crypto ETN trading to eligible investors. The move marks a significant step for the firm beyond its traditional funds, shares, and pensions business into digital-asset exposure delivered through regulated stock-exchange instruments.
The platform now offers Bitcoin and Ethereum-linked exchange-traded notes, which trade like ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange. Unlike buying cryptocurrency directly, investors hold listed instruments that track the price of bitcoin or ether without needing a crypto wallet or private keys.
Access is restricted to certified high-net-worth individuals and restricted investors who intend to commit less than 10% of their net assets. Every buyer must first pass an appropriateness assessment, and there's also a 24-hour cooling-off period before any trade can be completed.
