Hargreaves Lansdown Offers Crypto ETNs to 2 Million UK Investors
Hargreaves Lansdown has opened nine crypto ETNs for its 2 million UK investors, giving them access to Bitcoin and Ether without directly holding the assets. The decision follows regulatory changes that reopened retail access to crypto notes.
The platform warns that these high-risk products are not suitable for all investors and that they could lose all their money. Eligible customers must complete an appropriateness assessment and a 24-hour cooling-off period before trading.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has allowed retail access to certain cryptocurrency ETNs listed on UK-recognised investment exchanges, classifying them as Restricted Mass Market Investments. This change marks a shift for Hargreaves Lansdown, which previously maintained a cautious stance on crypto investments.
