Harmony Abandons Its Network Amid Threats from State Actors and AI

Harmony, a sharded layer 1 blockchain launched on Binance Launchpad in 2019, has announced plans to sunset its network and migrate its ONE token to Ethereum. The decision comes after the project faced growing threats from state actors and AI agents, which Harmony says are too great to overcome.

The proposed transition would allow validators to cease operations starting September 10th. Harmony will compensate validators for the difference in emission rewards between their final block and the network's final block, with approximately $1.4 million set aside for the validator compensation program.

Validators can also continue as governors or participate in Harmony's planned AI video economy. GPU operators could receive first-year subsidies and support aimed at generating up to $1 million in combined revenue, while affiliates would initially receive a 30% recurring commission on referred $10 monthly subscriptions.
