Harmony Abandons Mainnet in Face of State Actor Threats

Harmony, a cryptocurrency project that aims to provide a scalable and secure network for decentralized applications, has announced plans to sunset its mainnet and migrate its ONE token to the Ethereum blockchain. The decision comes in response to growing threats from state actors and AI agents, which Harmony believes pose too great of a risk to the project's security.

Harmony stated that since its mainnet launch in 2019, the community has been resilient through attacks and changes, but it is now time to fully sunset the network. The transition will allow validators to cease operating beginning September 10. Harmony plans to compensate validators for the difference in emission rewards between their final block and the network's final block, setting aside approximately $1.4 million for the validator compensation program.

Validators can continue as governors or participate in Harmony's planned AI video economy. GPU operators could receive first-year subsidies and support aimed at generating up to $1 million in combined revenue. Affiliates would initially receive a 30% recurring commission on referred $10 monthly subscriptions.
