Harmony Rolls Back Network to Rectify Forged Mint Incident

Harmony has announced plans to discard 141,628 blocks and 109,126 transactions on its network, effectively rolling back to a state recorded at 23:25:37 UTC on August 11. The decision aims to rectify a recent forged mint incident that saw an attacker move $2.385 trillion in ONE tokens within just 106 seconds.

The roll-back will occur from block 92,730,034 on shard 0, which is two blocks before the first confirmed forged mint. Validators will keep this block and its corresponding one on shard 1, both timestamped at 23:25:37 UTC on August 11, and install replacement databases at those blocks.

Of the regular transactions that will be discarded, a whopping 95.80% were automated, with most of them related to decentralized exchange activity. The project has concluded that selectively replaying transactions is not possible due to changes in chain state, which could lead to different outcomes for the same transaction.

The investigation into the forged mint incident continues, with Harmony working closely with exchanges and law enforcement agencies to preserve records and assess impact.
