Hashdex Bitcoin ETF Faces Liquidation Amid Financial Strains
The Hashdex Bitcoin ETF will liquidate its assets from August 18th, leaving DEFI holders until August 17th to sell. This decision was made due to a squeeze between the fund's net assets and operating expenses. According to Hashdex's filings, the $14.7 million in assets is not enough to cover ongoing costs, which are estimated at around $36,750 per year based on the 0.25% annual management fee.
The liquidation plan will determine each holder's cash amount from assets remaining after liabilities and transaction costs are paid or reserved for, including the costs of selling Bitcoin. The exact payout date is still unsettled, with Hashdex pointing to either August 24th or 28th as possible dates for distribution.
Investors who choose to hold their shares past the August 17th cutoff will enter a cash wind-down, during which time the fund's assets will be sold off and distributed among shareholders. The sponsor will cover any remaining liquidation expenses.
