Hashdex has announced that it will shut down its spot price Bitcoin ETF after nearly two and a half years. The fund, which trades on NYSE ARCA under the DEFI ticker, had net assets of $14.25 million as of Monday.

The decision to liquidate was made after evaluating factors including trading liquidity, operating costs, and investor interest. The fund will distribute the cash to remaining shareholders and sell its approximately 225 BTC holdings in the coming weeks.

The Hashdex Bitcoin Futures ETF, launched in 2022, had a peak net asset value of $17.54 million on May 9, 2025. However, it was never able to attract more than $18 million in net assets during its existence.
