Hashdex Shutters US Bitcoin ETF After Struggling to Attract Investors
The Hashdex is shutting down its Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the US after accumulating just $14.7 million in assets under management.
The move comes more than two years after the company launched its ETF, which was approved by the SEC in January 2024 as one of the first Bitcoin spot ETFs in the US.
According to a document submitted to the SEC on Monday (August 3), the Hashdex ETF (NYSE Arca: DEFI) will cease trading after the market closes on August 17, before being delisted from the exchange.
The remaining shareholders of the fund will receive cash distributions by August 28, after the fund sells off its remaining Bitcoin holdings. The Hashdex said it had evaluated various factors, including assets under management, trading liquidity, operational costs, investor interest, and how the fund fit into its broader product lineup before deciding to liquidate.
The company stated that it continues to manage over $200 million in investment products available to US investors.
