Hawaii Blocks Cash-to-Crypto Transactions at Digital Kiosks
A new law in Hawaii has taken effect, banning cash-to-crypto transactions at digital financial asset transaction kiosks across the state. House Bill 1642, approved by Governor Josh Green in July, prohibits kiosk operators from accepting U.S. currency in exchange for digital assets.
The measure targets the cash-to-crypto function of these machines, which are no longer allowed to facilitate this type of transaction under the law. This means that individuals will not be able to use ATMs or other devices to convert their cash into digital assets such as tokens and cryptocurrencies.
The law took effect on October 1, marking a significant change in Hawaii's regulatory environment for digital asset kiosks. Governor Green had signed House Bill 1642 in July, bringing it one step closer to implementation.
