Hayes Sees AI Bubble Bursting, Triggers Trillions in Government Rescue
Arthur Hayes, the Managing Partner of Maelstrom, has a unique take on the artificial intelligence (AI) boom. He believes AI is a bubble, but its eventual reckoning could be a catalyst for growth in the cryptocurrency market. According to Hayes, AI companies are building enormous infrastructure, including data centers, on the assumption that their demand will continue to grow. However, the companies themselves are struggling financially, and the infrastructure costs are mounting.
Hayes predicts that the AI bubble will burst within 12 to 18 months, when the data-center bills come due. He expects the government to step in and provide a bailout, worth multiple trillions of dollars, to prevent a collapse. Hayes sees this as a liquidity event for cryptocurrency, as the resulting money creation could boost the market.
Hayes' own project, Flop Labs, is developing a blockchain network called FLOP, which aims to connect AI agents with computing power. The network will be built on a decentralized architecture, with no venture-capital allocation or presale. An airdrop is planned for late October, distributing 25% of the 10-year supply to holders.
Hayes believes that the cheap computing power left behind by the AI bubble will be a key driver of growth for the FLOP network. He expects that the abundance of computing power will enable billions of software agents to perform economic tasks continuously, making FLOP a valuable cryptocurrency.
