HBAR and XRP: Enterprise Coins Show Different Strengths
Hedera's token, HBAR, surged 27% on September 28 after IBM announced it would list IDTrust, an identity app built on the Hedera network, in its cloud catalog. The listing did not disclose any customers or contract values, limiting the impact on HBAR's price. Hedera charges small fees in HBAR for transactions on its network, but these fees are typically a fraction of a cent.
The excitement was short-lived as sellers stepped in and HBAR fell 16% the following day, suggesting traders were cashing in profits rather than reacting to negative news. Despite this decline, IBM still lists IDTrust, indicating that the partnership is not without merit.
HBAR's recent performance metrics favor it over XRP, with a 38% appreciation over the past month compared to XRP's 8%. However, XRP has retained its value more effectively over the past year, trades closer to its all-time highs, and boasts a market cap significantly larger than HBAR.
XRP also benefits from Evernorth's backing, a Ripple-backed company that holds over 473 million XRP. While this does not necessarily indicate actual usage of the XRP Ledger for transactions, it provides a clear path forward with confirmed token quantities.
