Hedera Blockchain Sets Cocoa Industry on Path to Transparency
A new era of transparency is dawning on the chocolate industry thanks to a revolutionary pilot project launched by Merck, PwC Germany and The Hashgraph Group. Their solution uses the Hedera blockchain to track cocoa from farm to shelf, ensuring origin, quality, and compliance data are verifiable throughout the supply chain.
The initiative emerged in response to increasing pressure from European Union regulations, which will require companies to prove cocoa origin with precise data by December 30, 2026. Failure to comply could result in fines of up to 4% of annual turnover.
The pilot project integrates three key components: The Hashgraph Group's TrackTrace Digital Product Passport, Merck's M-Trust physical authentication technology, and PwC Germany's consulting services. This combination allows each cocoa batch to be linked to a verifiable digital identity, ensuring transparency and trust across the value chain.
