Hedera Micropayments Expand Digital Payments

A new payment model is emerging on Hedera, connecting HBAR with fast settlement and low fees. Dropp, a platform built on Hedera, supports HBAR, USD, and USDC for smaller transactions.

The model aims to reduce costs for merchants and businesses by providing fractional payments designed for digital content and services, including pay-per-use access. According to Hedera, Dropp can settle transactions within three to five seconds globally, with fees starting at $0.0005 per dollar.

Hedera says its micropayments model can cost up to 15 times less than traditional providers, making it an attractive option for digital commerce. The platform has already integrated with Truist Bank's RTP APIs through The Clearing House RTP network and is featured in the FedNow Service Provider Showcase.

The connections between Hedera and existing financial channels demonstrate how blockchain infrastructure can support a wider range of applications beyond cryptocurrency-only payment environments.
