Hegotá Upgrade Takes Shape as Ethlabs Prioritizes Faster Blocks
Ethereum's next major network upgrade, Hegotá, is taking shape as Ethlabs published its priorities for the upgrade. The nonprofit research and development lab recommends faster transaction confirmations, stronger censorship resistance, and expanded Layer 1 capacity.
The highest priority feature is EIP-8198 Quick Slots, which aims to reduce Ethereum's current 12-second slot time to 10 seconds within a year. This would improve transaction confirmation reliability, onchain market pricing, and censorship resistance.
Ethlabs also supports FOCIL (EIP-7805), a feature that uses validator-created inclusion lists to make it more difficult for specialized block builders to omit valid transactions.
