Hegotá Upgrade to Prioritize Censorship Resistance in 2027

The Ethereum Foundation has confirmed that Hegotá, the target upgrade for 2027, will prioritize censorship resistance as a key focus. The foundation announced in April 2026 that FOCIL (EIP-7805) would be selected as a key feature of the consensus layer for Hegotá, marking it as a central feature of the upgrade.

FOCIL involves a structure where a validator committee creates a list of transactions to be included, which the next block proposer and validators must reflect. This is aimed at reducing issues with certain transactions being excluded or delayed in blocks.

The Ethereum Foundation also mentioned that slot shortening and account abstraction are under preliminary review for Hegotá. However, the final scope and implementation methods are still in the adjustment phase.

Ethlabs presented its views on Hegotá in a statement released on August 14, outlining the priorities for the upcoming upgrade as △FOCIL △Quick Slots △Native Account Abstraction △L1 Scaling. However, this document is a proposal from Ethlabs and does not signify the final scope or mainnet schedule for Hegotá.

The discussions around Hegotá have already entered a phase of scope selection, with core Ethereum developers having begun selecting the scope of Hegotá, reviewing 66 proposals in total.
