Hegseth's appointment as Defense Secretary in January 2025 coincides with the most crypto-friendly administration in US history. President Donald Trump pushed for landmark crypto legislation, the Clarity Act, to pass last month.
Contrary to Hegseth's relatively small Bitcoin stash, his bank account holds $1 million in cash and he has retirement accounts containing investments worth roughly $2.05 million to $4.35 million.
The Trump family's crypto ventures have generated billions, with President Trump personally disclosing over $1.4 billion in profits. The family made a total of $2.3 billion from four crypto ventures through the end of April 2026, according to Reuters.
