Hester Peirce 'Crypto Mom' Leaves SEC Post on October 2

Hester Peirce, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner known for her crypto-friendly stance, is leaving her post on October 2. She was dubbed 'Crypto Mom' by the industry due to her repeated criticism of an enforcement-centered approach to crypto regulation.

Pierce expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work at the SEC, saying it has been the greatest honor of her professional life. She emphasized the importance of having a regulatory environment that allows individuals to make their own investment decisions within an appropriate framework.

Pierce's resignation had been anticipated, as her second term expired on June 5, 2025, but she can remain in her post for about 18 months after a term ends if a successor has not been appointed. She will be joining Regent University's law school as an associate professor starting in November.
