HIVE Digital Technologies Eyes 36-52% Mining Margins as Bitcoin Approaches $80K
HIVE Digital Technologies recently showcased its competitive edge in the Bitcoin mining industry during its Q1 FY2027 earnings webcast. The company's president and CEO, Aydin Kilic, presented a margin sensitivity table that illustrates how rising Bitcoin prices can significantly boost HIVE's profitability.
The projections indicate that at a $60K Bitcoin price, HIVE's mining margins after electricity costs would sit at 36%. However, if the price were to reach $80K, the company could keep as much as 52% of its mining revenue after power costs. This impressive margin range is made possible by HIVE's reliance on hydroelectric power from Paraguay, which offers some of the cheapest energy rates globally.
The company's Q1 earnings results provided a strong foundation for these projections. In the quarter, HIVE generated $79.1 million in revenue, a 73% increase compared to the same period last year. The majority of this revenue came from Bitcoin mining, which contributed $72.1 million and saw HIVE mine 1,004 BTC.
While HIVE's diversification into high-performance computing (HPC) and AI infrastructure added $7 million to its revenue total, these contributions are still relatively minor compared to the company's core mining business. Nonetheless, HIVE's green energy strategy in Paraguay addresses two key issues simultaneously: cost and sustainability.
