HK Sets Stage for Stablecoin Trading and Tokenized Debt
Hong Kong is taking steps to solidify its position as a leading digital asset hub in Asia. The government plans to pilot the tokenization of Exchange Fund Bills by the end of 2026, allowing regulated stablecoins to trade on licensed platforms.
The move comes as part of the city's efforts to blend traditional finance with digital asset infrastructure. This includes refining its virtual asset licensing regime and regulatory framework for tokenized investment products.
Hong Kong has been building a regulated framework for digital assets, having previously licensed virtual asset trading platforms and stablecoin issuers. Allowing those tokens to trade on regulated platforms marks the next phase of that rollout.
