HK Woman Loses HK21M in Cryptocurrency Scam After Online Investment Duped
A 60-year-old Hong Kong woman lost over HK$21 million in a cryptocurrency scam after being duped by an online investment expert.
The victim met the scammers on 'Baby Kingdom', a popular parenting forum and community website, where they claimed to be an investment specialist.
The fraudster convinced her to invest in a fake cryptocurrency platform that promised high returns, resulting in a HK$19 million transfer. An accomplice later contacted her, posing as a compliance officer, claiming money laundering and demanding more funds.
The woman was tricked into transferring an additional HK$1.2 million before reporting the case to police on Saturday.
