Hong Kong Bank Manager Jailed for Crypto Bribe Scheme

Share

A former bank manager in Hong Kong has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment and ordered to repay approximately HK$3.7 million after accepting over US$470,000 in cryptocurrency bribes.

Lam Chun-yin, a 32-year-old customer relationship manager at China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy for an agent to accept advantages.

The scheme involved international dimensions that severely undermined Hong Kong's reputation as a global financial hub and eroded investor confidence.

Lam conspired with associates to falsely verify multiple counterfeit standby letters of credit and two forged pledge letters involving aggregate sums exceeding US$1.6 billion.
