Hong Kong Banker Gets Four Years for $470K USDT Bribery Scheme
A Hong Kong banker has been sentenced to four years in prison for accepting over $470,000 in USDT tied to false financial instruments. The case involves Lam Chun-yin, a former relationship manager at CCB Asia's Causeway Bay branch.
Lam was accused of conspiring with a Vesttoo department head and associates to accept the Tether payments in exchange for authenticating fake standby letters of credit and collateral letters. These documents claimed to come from CCB and carried a stated value above $1.6 billion.
The case highlights how crypto-based bribes can still leave an evidence trail, even if blockchain records are not used directly. Investigators tied the payments to a wider banking fraud built around false guarantees and unauthorized use of the bank's name.
