Hong Kong Regulator Targets Counterfeit Crypto Exchanges
The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has taken action against four fraudulent websites that were impersonating DFX Labs Company Limited, a licensed virtual asset trading platform. The SFC added these sites to its Alert List after DFX Labs reported them as counterfeiters of their brand.
The four flagged websites - dfxlabs.org, fgzc.tips, dwzc.tips, and tarikron.shop - are not affiliated with DFX Labs in any way, according to the SFC's Alert List entry. Any investor who deposits funds or submits personal information to these sites is dealing with an unregulated entity that has no relationship to the real DFX Labs exchange.
This case marks a shift in Hong Kong's crypto fraud landscape, where licensed exchanges have become targets for impersonation. The SFC has built out its roster of licensed virtual asset trading platforms, now numbering 13, and this success creates opportunities for fraudsters to steal credibility by copying the names and visual identities of licensed brands.
