Hoskinson Clarifies Limited Role in Cardano Amid Governance Shift
Charles Hoskinson's role in Cardano has been a topic of discussion among the community, especially after a recent wave of criticism over slow adoption and a battered ADA price. In response to these criticisms, Hoskinson clarified his position on X, stating that he is not accountable for Cardano's adoption and that he has no official role in the network.
Hoskinson emphasized that he is CEO of Input Output Global (IOG), the engineering firm behind much of Cardano's original codebase, but that he does not hold an executive seat inside the decentralized network. He explained that this distinction is key to understanding his limited control over the project.
As Hoskinson pointed out, the community-elected representatives through on-chain voting now have authority over hard forks and treasury spending, a structural change aimed at making Cardano's decentralization governance real rather than theoretical. This shift was reinforced by the burning of the original genesis keys, which removed any technical shortcut for the founding entity to override community decisions.
A recent test of this governance system came when DReps rejected a 12.29 million ADA treasury proposal meant to fund an IOG-backed Bitcoin DeFi product. This rejection demonstrates that community voting carries real teeth and can block proposals connected to IOG, underscoring Hoskinson's point that he cannot simply direct funds toward projects he favors.
