Hoskinson Sees Blockchain Entering Exponential Growth Phase
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson believes cryptocurrency is entering a new era of exponential growth. He drew parallels between blockchain technology and earlier innovations such as nuclear technology, the internet, and artificial intelligence.
Hoskinson compared the development of blockchain to the internet, noting that both changed how quickly information could be accessed and communicated. 'The internet comes around. It's our next exponential technology, computing and the internet,' he said.
He also pointed to the rapid progress in artificial intelligence, citing improvements in model efficiency as an indication that advanced AI could become more widely available.
Hoskinson discussed tokenization in financial markets, noting that blockchain-based systems can allow transactions to settle more quickly than traditional infrastructure. He mentioned that tokenized equity data showed growth from roughly $600 million at the beginning of 2025 to about $3 billion.
He warned that predicting exponential growth can be difficult based on early progress alone, pointing to renewable energy in Germany as an example. Renewables were once expected to provide no more than 4% of the country's electricity by 2025, but they actually supplied 55.9%
According to Hoskinson, 'exponential technologies are counterintuitive in that very little does something, a little bit more does everything.'
