Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson warns that Bitcoin's inability to adapt to quantum computing could lead to its downfall as the world's largest cryptocurrency. Speaking in an interview, Hoskinson stated that Bitcoin's governance model makes it difficult for the network to implement major protocol upgrades.

Hoskinson believes that Bitcoin has successfully overcome various external challenges throughout its history but that quantum computing poses a fundamentally different threat. Unlike previous challenges, quantum-resistant security would likely require coordinated, network-wide upgrades. If Bitcoin cannot organize and deploy these changes efficiently, Hoskinson fears it could eventually lose its dominance in the cryptocurrency market.

Cardano, on the other hand, was built to preserve Bitcoin's original vision while addressing limitations that have emerged over time. Hoskinson described Cardano as Bitcoin's 'spiritual successor', saying the blockchain solves issues that Satoshi Nakamoto could not fully address due to technical limitations and time constraints during Bitcoin's early development.

Hoskinson highlighted Cardano's on-chain governance system as one of its greatest strengths, allowing stakeholders to vote on required protocol changes and execute the migration through the blockchain's governance framework. This process would enable Cardano to respond more quickly and efficiently to future technological challenges than networks with more rigid governance structures.
