House Advances Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act in Bipartisan Vote
The House Ways and Means Committee has made progress on digital asset legislation by advancing the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act in a 38-5 vote. The bill aims to create federal tax rules for various cryptocurrency activities, providing regulatory clarity that could boost adoption and compliance across the crypto space.
The proposed legislation would exempt network and transaction fees of $10 or less from taxation, excluding service providers handling transactions for customers. This exemption is intended to reduce the administrative burden on taxpayers and make it easier for them to comply with tax laws.
In addition to this exemption, the bill would establish a voluntary disclosure program within 12 months of enactment. Eligible taxpayers could amend previous returns and settle outstanding taxes, interest, and penalties under this program.
