House Committee Advances Bipartisan Crypto Tax Bill in 38-5 Vote
The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee has advanced a bipartisan cryptocurrency tax bill in a 38-5 vote, moving legislation that would establish clearer federal tax rules for digital assets toward consideration by the full House.
The committee approved an amendment in the nature of a substitute to H.R. 10357, which is now known as the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act. This bill aims to address several areas of digital-asset taxation, including small transactions, dollar-denominated stablecoins, mining, staking, transaction fees, and existing tax rules that currently apply to traditional financial assets.
One key provision would establish a $10 threshold for certain small digital-asset transactions, which could help remove the burden of reporting requirements for routine payments and other low-value transfers. The committee said this change is intended to make it easier to use digital assets as a medium of exchange.
