House Committee Sets Markup Date for Bitcoin Reserve Bill
The House Financial Services Committee has set September 16 as the date for markup of the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026, a bill that could make Bitcoin a permanent fixture on the federal balance sheet.
The bill, known as ARMA (H.R. 8957), was introduced by Rep. Nick Begich and co-led by Rep. Jared Golden, with over 20 bipartisan co-sponsors.
ARMA consolidates all federally held Bitcoin into a single centralized treasury account, mandating a 20-year holding period for the government to sell or trade these holdings.
To maintain transparency, ARMA requires quarterly public Proof-of-Reserve audits and cryptographic attestations alongside third-party audits, allowing anyone with a blockchain explorer to independently verify the government's Bitcoin holdings.
