House Panel Advances Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill
A key House panel has voted in favor of creating a strategic Bitcoin reserve bill, which would place qualifying federal Bitcoin holdings under Treasury Department management.
The proposal, H.R. 8957, was introduced by Rep. Nick Begich and co-led by Democratic Rep. Jared Golden. It aims to turn the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve created under President Donald Trump's 2025 executive order into federal law.
Treasury would be responsible for establishing secure storage for qualifying federal Bitcoin, which would generally face a minimum holding period of 20 years.
The bill also requires Treasury to publish quarterly proof-of-reserve reports, backed by independent audits, and allows study of budget-neutral Bitcoin acquisitions while barring new taxes, borrowing, or deficit spending.
