HSBC RedCoin Lands in Hong Kong as Asia's Stablecoin Adoption Soars
HSBC Hong Kong's stablecoin has been named HSBC RedCoin, and it will be launched via the PayMe app before year-end. The move comes as Asia's stablecoin adoption continues to grow despite a 6.8% decline in regional crypto economies. According to Chainalysis, cross-border stablecoin transfers are outpacing domestic ones in most Asian countries, with Malaysia leading the pack at a ratio of 29.5:1.
HSBC RedCoin will be available for peer-to-peer transfers and merchant payments initially, before expanding to wholesale corporate and institutional use cases. The bank has also promised an education campaign focused on scam prevention and transparent redemption mechanisms, as a recent survey found that 26% of Hong Kong customers believed stablecoins were government-issued.
The UAE is also embracing stablecoins, with SMEs in the region leading the way in adopting digital assets for business payments. In fact, 14% of UAE SMEs accept crypto payments and 10% use stablecoins to pay their own bills.
