HSBC Unveils RedCoin Hong Kong Stablecoin for Over 3.3 Million PayMe Users

Share

HSBC has named its upcoming Hong Kong stablecoin 'RedCoin' and is planning to launch it via PayMe, its mobile payment app, by year-end. The bank aims to reach more than 3.3 million users of the app with this new token.

A recent survey conducted by HSBC found that 74% of customers recognize a stablecoin use case, but nearly 26% mistakenly believe they are government-issued. This highlights a need for consumer education and regulatory clarity in the crypto space.

HSBC received its stablecoin license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority in April, alongside another bank. The RedCoin will initially be offered only through PayMe and HSBC's Hong Kong mobile banking app.
