HTX Survives DDoS Attack Without User Fund Loss
Justin Sun, an advisor to cryptocurrency exchange HTX, has confirmed that the platform was recently targeted by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. According to Sun, user funds were not affected during the incident and services have since returned to normal.
The DDoS attack temporarily knocked HTX offline but did not compromise wallet keys or move customer funds. The exchange has preserved full evidence of the incident and filed reports with law enforcement authorities in relevant jurisdictions.
HTX's incident history includes a similar DDoS attack in January 2024 that took services offline for roughly 15 minutes, as well as a hot-wallet exploit in September 2023 resulting in losses of about $8 million. In November 2023, HTX and the Sun-linked Heco Chain were drained of a combined sum reported at around $100 million.
Sun has pledged to prosecute attacks targeting the platform 'to the fullest extent' and has announced that settlement talks with UK and EU regulators are underway regarding compliance obligations.
