Hut 8 Stock Soars on AI Infrastructure Growth Potential
Hut 8, a Bitcoin miner and favorite among short-term investors seeking exposure to Bitcoin prices, has seen its stock jump by an astonishing 645% over the past year. However, this surge is no longer driven solely by Bitcoin prices but by the company's diversification into power-first artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and energy infrastructure platforms.
Hut 8 now operates three business segments: Compute, Power, and Digital Infrastructure. While its AI data center revenue currently represents only a small portion of its overall revenue, the company has secured $7.5 billion in project financing for Beacon Point Phase 1 and Google-backed River Bend, among other projects.
The anticipation of stable leasing revenue from these AI data centers is driving Hut 8's stock price up, with the company projecting over $1.75 billion in annual net operating income once operations commence in 2027. Despite a correction in July and August, the stock rebounded by 38% in September.
The question remains: is this stock still a buy at its current price point? Valuations may not justify the exponential growth expected from AI infrastructure over the next two to three years. However, investors are advised to buy and hold the stock for the long-term potential of Hut 8's projects.
