HYPE-Dependent Hyperion DeFi Earnings Mask Modest Business Growth
Hyperion DeFi reported a significant improvement in its Q2 2026 earnings, with a net income of $31 million. However, this impressive figure is heavily influenced by treasury gains from the company's HYPE token holdings.
The price of HYPE surged from $36.62 at the end of March to $65 by June 30, generating $54.8 million in treasury gains. This accounting boost was the primary reason behind Hyperion's $31 million profit and $53.7 million adjusted EBITDA.
While the company's treasury expanded, with HYPE holdings increasing from 1.94 million to 2.04 million tokens worth $132.6 million at quarter's end, the earnings remain heavily dependent on the token's price.
Stripping out these treasury swings, the actual business performance is modestly improving. Adjusted Gross Profit reached $1.15 million, up 20% from Q1 and roughly 162% from Q3 2025. Operating expenses excluding stock compensation fell to $2.3 million, down 21% quarter over quarter and 46% from a year earlier.
However, operating cash flow remained negative at $2.1 million, although this was an improvement from Q1.
