Hyperliquid Bolsters HYPE Buybacks with $14M+ USDC Yield Payment
Hyperliquid is about to start paying for HYPE buybacks using funds unrelated to trading activity. According to the exchange, approximately $14.58 million in USDC is pending transfer to the Hyperliquid Assistance Fund as of October 3, 2026. This development adds a second revenue stream to the token's buyback engine, which has traditionally run on trading fees.
The AQAv2 framework allows about 90% of the net yield generated on Hyperliquid's USDC reserves to be routed to the Assistance Fund. The fund then uses this money to purchase HYPE on the open market and burn it. This setup involves two big names in the stablecoin world: Coinbase serves as the official USDC treasury deployer, while Circle handles technical deployments.
With current reserves estimated between $5 billion and $6.7 billion, and prevailing yields of about 3%, projected annual buyback funding from reserves alone stands at $135-200 million. Adding this to the approximately $771 million in trading fees that are funneled into the Assistance Fund each year brings total annual buyback capacity above $900 million.
