Hyperliquid Faces $860M Token Unlock: Can Hype Absorb the Supply?
Hyperliquid's upcoming token unlock is set to bring in $860 million worth of HYPE tokens on October 6th, representing nearly 3.9-4.5% of the circulating supply.
This significant influx of new tokens raises concerns about potential dilution and a decrease in market liquidity, which could put downward pressure on the price. However, it's worth noting that contributor wallet activity will help determine if the token distribution causes selling pressure or is just another small token release.
In contrast to this supply increase, institutional demand from Bitwise is building up another side of HYPE's liquidity equation. After four days without purchases, Bitwise's BHYP clients bought $10.5 million in HYPE on September 4th, with each purchase averaging approximately $85 per token.
The demand supporting HYPE also extends beyond outside buyers, as Hyperliquid's trading activity generates continuous token purchases through fees. In the last 24 hours, $859,500 in fees generated $823,800 in HYPE-directed revenue, funding purchases of 9,730 tokens worth $829,500.
