Hyperliquid Surges Past $10 Billion Market Cap Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
The cryptocurrency market has seen an unexpected surge in prices over the past two months. Major cryptos like Bitcoin and Ethereum have increased by 30% or more, but their overall performance for 2026 is still in the red.
However, Hyperliquid (HYPE) stands out as a notable exception, with its price increasing by over 200% year-to-date, making it the 10th-largest cryptocurrency by market cap and the best-performing cryptocurrency with a market cap of more than $10 billion.
The core product of Hyperliquid is not actually the HYPE token, but rather an online trading platform. This platform allows users to trade cryptocurrencies as well as digital gambling chips. However, its legality in the U.S. is currently uncertain and it has been blocked for U.S. users due to regulatory concerns.
The SEC has approved three spot ETFs that track the HYPE token: Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF (HYPG), 21Shares Hyperliquid Staking ETF (THYP), and Bitwise Hyperliquid ETF (BHYP). There is also one leveraged ETF, the 21Shares 2x Long HYPE ETF (TXXH).
According to CEO Hyunsu Jung, Hyperliquid's popularity has driven its strong returns this year. The platform has generated over a billion dollars in revenue since launching less than two years ago, making it the largest crypto derivatives exchange by revenue.
