Hyperliquid Surges Past Solana in Market Value
Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Solana (SOL), two prominent cryptocurrencies in the market, have shown vastly different performances this year. As of September 27, 2026, Hyperliquid has surged an impressive 266%, turning a $1,000 investment into $3,660. In contrast, Solana has fallen about 2.7% and is currently valued at $124.
The significant gain of HYPE is not directly tied to broader market trends, as Bitcoin (BTC) has declined about 3.7% this year. Over the past 60 days, Hyperliquid has jumped 70%, up 47.6% over 90 days, showing its ability to shift quickly.
The platform operates primarily as a blockchain-based trading exchange and uses 97% of its trading fees to buy back HYPE tokens. Additionally, Hyperliquid Strategies, a Nasdaq-listed treasury company, purchased about $476 million worth of HYPE in the month leading up to September 25. Three U.S. spot HYPE ETFs hold approximately $502 million in total.
When comparing market value, Hyperliquid stands at approximately $23.4 billion, while Solana is valued at around $72.8 billion. However, only about 251 million of Hyperliquid's 952 million total tokens are currently in circulation, with the remaining tokens set to be released through scheduled unlocks.
To double in value by 2030, Hyperliquid would need the value of all its tokens to rise to about $177 billion, while Solana would need to reach about $146 billion. While Solana introduces new tokens primarily as staking rewards, much of this supply is intended to benefit existing stakeholders.
