Hyperliquid, a decentralized perpetual exchange built on its own layer-1 blockchain, has surpassed several major centralized exchanges in open interest (OI), according to data from Onchain Lens. The platform's OI now stands at $5.25 billion, surpassing Bybit, HTX, Bitfinex, Kraken, and Coinbase.

This milestone marks a significant shift in trading activity, with traders increasingly comfortable with on-chain execution and self-custody of positions. Unlike traditional exchanges that rely on order books and custodial wallets, Hyperliquid operates with a fully on-chain order book, offering transparency and reduced counterparty risk.

The rise in Hyperliquid's OI is not just a number, it reflects changing market structure. While Binance still leads the market with $24.91 billion in OI, far ahead of Hyperliquid's $5.25 billion, the gap may narrow if adoption continues at its current pace.
